The University has demonstrated its commitment to the environment
through the implementation of an Environmental Management System
compliant to ISO 14001 and is a signatory to the Talloires Declaration.
The School of Chemistry has incorporated this as part of our
Strategic Plan.
The Environmental Management System ISO 14001 is an International
Standard. It enables an organisation to formulate a policy regarding
environmental objectives taking into account legislative requirements
and information about significant environmental impacts. The
Environmental Management System is integrated into the University's
Safety Management System.
The University now incorporates the environmental management
system (EMS) including ISO-14001 into SafetyMap and has commenced
a Green Office campaign to raise awareness and participation
in recycling and minimizing waste to lessen our impact on the
environment. By participating in the following initiatives we
can limit our resource use and demand for landfill. University
Management has contracted various companies to provide collection
facilities around the University.
Environment Programs
@ the RMO
The Environment Programs of the University of Melbourne, operate
from the Green Office, a part of the Risk Management Office.
These Programs are the:
Waste Wise Program - developed to manage the University's Waste
Wise certification with EcoRecycle Victoria. Make sure you read their "Tips & Tricks to Reduce
Waste" section.
Green
Office Program - which aims to work closely with staff to
improve the environmental performance within the University's
offices by following a ten point environmental plan.
Green Laboratory
Program - working to minimise environmental risks associated
with the University's Laboratories. This is achieved by following
a laboratory-specific ten point plan and utilising environmental
gap analysis techniques.
The Guide to Making Recycled Notepads
is designed to assist departments in producing their own used-on-one-side
note/lecture pads.
