Incidents involving adjoining buildings.Version 1.1 Sept 2006 In the event of a chemical (liquid or gas) leak, or other incident, that has the potential to cause harm to people outside the building or adjoining buildings, the BEC is to immediately notify Security on 46666. This will enable Security to control the flow of traffic outside the building, or contact the BECs of adjoining buildings if evacuation is required. If an incident at an adjoining building has the potential to cause
harm to people in the Chemistry buildings, Security or the Emergency
Management Coordinator will notify the BEC. He/she can then order an
evacuation of the building utilising the public address component of
the EWIS panel at the front entrance, rather than hitting a ‘break-glass’
alarm. This is so the BEC can relay the safest exit route and alternative
assembly point away from immediate danger. This could be the South Lawn
which is the top of the Underground Car Park or the University Athletics
Oval. |
